Fantastic Idea
Sleeping on the job
Most of us come up with our best ideas when we are about to nod off, says a study. So is it time the boss put beds in the workplace?
Top napping tips for work
Announce your nap to your colleagues
Use "equipment" that will make your nap pleasurable
Use an alarm to ensure you wake up on time
Find a secret spot so you will not be awakened prematurely
Have a napping routine
But for the Sleep Council the issue is not how to fit naps into the working day, but how to fit work around sleep.
It says the nine-to-five culture does not fit into the natural sleeping pattern of the human race and Britain's bosses need to introduce a more "sleep friendly" working day.
Well I'm all for this, sounds brilliant, full story here

Re: Fantastic Idea
Reminds me of a certain NTL Macintosh Tech Suppport Person (who shall remain nameless) way back in the days of NTL Tech Support in Cleppa Park in Newport.
They had a Tech on the night shift who while walking a customer through some Macintosh problems with configurations etc asked the customer to restart the Macintosh and placed them hold.
Several hours later he awoke from his nap only to find to his bemusement the customer still onhold and said ok then has the Mac restarted and sorry for the delay as he was making some checks from his side and calmly proceeded with the call.

I sleep all the time on my job... I get the cafe ready to open in Marks and Spencers.. Start at 5.30am.. nap in the back of the cafe till about half 6, do anything that needs doing.. fall asleep again till about 8ish & then go down for breakfast No one ever disturbs me, it's quite good

Re: Fantastic Idea
Never done that though I did fall asleep in a big company meeting once. All my mates were trying to casualy nudge me to wake me up. In the end the speaker stopped and waited for one of them to wake me up. You could have cooked a full english fried breakfast on my face

Re: Fantastic Idea
I remember when I first started work it was a big shock to my system, I had to go to college for day release and it all got too much so I thought I'll just put my head down on the desk and yep fell asleep. I wasn't out for long but long enough for everyone to notice and start laughing
Always says after my dinner that I'm ready for a little sleep, a power nap for 15 minutes would do me the world of good. I'll suggest it methinks to the powers that be

Re: Fantastic Idea
My technique is to place a long document on my desk and then rest my forehead on my hands as if in deep concentration. Occasionally the swaying of my head wakes me up!

Hehe, if I ever tried that I'd be woken up by a loud and annoying woman from Essex shouting in my ear "ello? ELLO? IS THAT VODAFONE????! CAN YOU ERE MEEE?"

Re: Fantastic Idea
I don't see what's wrong with amphetamines?
Generally I don't nod off. I do have an awful habit of zoning out though. I go away to that place inside, until someone asks me a question. It's worse when I'm tired. I have a "problem" with my eye muscles which means that when I'm tired I look like I've had a stroke
