women and men does racism reside ?

the following views are based upon experiences of real life, as well as other people's lives......

being sat in a room and dissolved of pretty much my social wellbeing and status i started to think of things in general of the local and pretty much country wide problem of tolerance what tolerance i hear you ask ?

i don't mean to sound completely one sided or strategically funny but why is it that black and white people predominantly youngsters have failed to instigate proper relationships with each other ?

it seems to me its not always a 'colour' aspect but of what the parents will say, i believe alot of youngsters these days will tolerate other 'colours' compaired to the previous years where ignorance and resentment may have been hand in hand in decision making of 'who they shall 'hang around' with.

granted there are many areas of this country where race and colour is a big issue.

but i can speak in an area which is mixed, i can safely say there is no real tension, there is still a blatant seperation in colours, thats expected but why ?

i keep asking myself why ?

what is the point in the seperation, its not always the individual who wants the continual seperation of races, with an each to their own mentality.....

sometimes for young people their hands can be tied, a huge pressure on them by their own family to 'stay away from those lot' else the consequences can be devistating if a relationship is found with the 'other side'

to me we as humans must mix in order to fully understand each other, everyone is diffarent, ill confess to being diffarent in comparison to most of my peers the same age, but that does not necessarily make it a bad thing right ?

i can see the worrying view points of some parents who think looking after their children is a number one priority and i commend them for that for taking an interest.

no one does want to see their child/teenager/young adult take the route of a life which will maybe harm their future of freedom and prosperity, instead turn them to crime, hatred, violence......

its still annoying that in this day and age ignorance is still widespread, secracy in meetings is a key alliey in making freinds from ethnic backgrounds , whilst openess will bring violence, intimidation, stress, shunning, disowning.....

and all this because the skin is diffarent ? the colour ? difarences in a culture ?

humans are humans, lets not forget that.

im not talking about those involved in a relationship really, im really talking about the external factors, ie the parents reactions, or the exclusion and explusion by some to be 'accepted' thats still there all to clearly.

personally i have not had this as a problem, but i think a lot of what you have said is because parents have older points of views, they were brought up in a time where there was little racial mixing and this dictates what they think today.

If the young people of our generation take a different view to inter-racial relations then it won't be an issue for their children.

I think there are a lot of factors involved, and one in particular is the environment that people have been brought up in. For example, where i used to live and where i had part time jobs these were particularly multi-racial so i have never had any problem with mixing with people of other races. Mind you saying that, based completely on my exeriences, i don't like any of the people from one ethnic group that i have met, but i think i will keep those views to myself

I would be happy for my children to have relationships from any background, as long as they were happy

Re: women and men does racism reside ?

I watched a documentary last night about the tensions between groups where a black journalist went to find out how things were between the differing ethnic and racial groups in the streets.I was expecting a nice upbeat programme about how things have improved but it was a real eye opener. The muslims had it in for the black community as much as for the white community and the black community weren't pleased with the muslims.9/11 was quoted as being the trigger by some but I wondered if that was merely an excuse. This was between the younger generations but among the elders of both sides they were the more upbeat about the situation.

Incog.

Re: women and men does racism reside ?

I know that in many cases, parents can react negatively to their children having partners of a different race, which I think is unacceptable, and this can stop the children from having possibly lifelong loving relationships. It can also be in the form of pressure from other members of the family, and peers. I'm afraid it happens a lot, and it's sad really.

We should look at NYC, which is probably on of the most culturally diverse places on earth, and take their example. They are very tolerant of race and I doubt they even consider it within a relationship. There are Jewish people, afro-American people, Chinese people, Japanese people, Asian people... and most people won't care. There are no inter-racial fights in the streets... types of people may congregate to different areas of town and it's still not perfect but they can come together and have lots of fun.

Differences should be appreciated and adored, they shouldn't intimidate and put off.

If you know how they thought, you would be as narrow minded and sad as they are. So be glad that you don't understand.

Re: women and men does racism reside ?

Absolutely none.

However What I feel about it isn't important is it?It is up to my children and they must realise that there will be those of the communities that won't like it.If they can face that then I do not care if their partner to be is purple with lime green stripes.

your reply was that you dont care what race or colour the person is, it would be up to your children to choose, but that is not a choice for many youngsters who have to 'abide by the rules' of their parents...

although i am not in the situation myself, i can understand that some parents who have come to this country and want to mantain their own culture have a problem with mixed race relationships. I know if i went to another country i would be accepting of the local culture but would like to maintain my own roots. For this reason i can see why some parents would prefer their children to enter relationships with people from the same culture/ background.

When i first told my parents that i was with Ann, my dad said something along the lines of "don't forget who you are" and i think this is a good way to think. What he was basically saying was that he didn't have a problem with me dating someone from a different culture/ ethnic group/ whatever you want to call it, but i agree with the point that he was making that i should keep my own culture and background close to my heart. I think this is something that i have done well because Ann and I are both understanding of each others differences, but i know that if she asked me to change my culture to suit hers that would be the end of our relationship, and i have a feeling that this may be what happens in a number of mixed race relationships.

At the end of the day, i am a romantic- i believe that you fall in love with who you fall in love with, and this will happen regardless of race/ colour / creed. I just think it is a shame that some parents have to put up barriers for such things, but in the end i think true love will destroy these anyway.

And on that note... goodnight
