The best way to reinvigorate soggy books
As an inveterate reader in the bath I have, on a number of occasions, managed to:
a) Start dropping off to sleep and dip part of the book into the bath.
b) Slip into the bath too recklessly and the resultant tidal wave slops out of the bath and wets the book.
c) Nothing to do with baths, but spilling a bottle of wine in the vicinity of the book.
As you are probably aware, this leaves the book with a greater or lesser number of pages in a very crinkly condition. In the case of library books I have always felt a definite need to improve the appearance of the book before I take them back. So, what is the best way to do this? The only way that I know off is, after letting the pages dry out, to place a piece of thin card on each wrinkled page and iron it with a hot iron. Besides being time consuming, this is is only partially effective. So, any better suggestions?
PS The following suggestions will be treated with the contempt they deserve:
a) Stop taking baths.
b) Stop drinking wine.

Raises eyes to sky, sighs deeply, and forgives him.

You're a student. Why would anyone expect you to have a bath in your hovel.

Re: The best way to reinvigorate soggy books
This bit is excellent:
Quote:
The recovery process is fairly simple:
Start with the cover. Open the cover (gently pry loose the inside page, if it's sticking). Run the air stream from the hair dryer (I'd recommend top settings on both heat and fan) over the cover, back and forth, top to bottom, and inside and out. When it feels dry and warm to the touch (not hot!) go on to the inside page. Same procedure. Smooth the page with your hand as you work. Work page to page this way.
When the next page starts to feel wet to your fingers, stop. Stick in a piece of paper as a bookmark, and put the book back in the freezer. Take out the next book (if there's more than one) and start on it. Leave the first book in the freezer for at least a day.
Covers may soak up more moisture than the pages, so you may have to do the cover several times. Just keep the book frozen, and work only so long as it's frozen, quitting when it starts to thaw.

Luckily my freezer will hit about -30 Celsius

-30C, eh? It wouldn't be filled with flasks holding all sorts of unpleasant micro-organisms, or bits of tissue or other things that you wouldn't want in your average household fridge?

Re: The best way to reinvigorate soggy books
So, just in case, you need to get lots of blotting paper in.
Stop reading library books in the bath! lol
