Sorry Christmas is cancelled!!
South Africa have denied reports that Christmas might be cancelled.
Shocking as it might sounds it might actually be a good idea... just think how much money everyone would save, how many marriages would be saved because people haven't cheated on their partner at the works Christmas party.
I really think they might of had something here what all you lot think?

Go ahead, cancel it. I will still celebrate it, take off work, and send my employees home.

Re: Sorry Christmas is cancelled!!
Oliver Cromwell's parlimentary party banned Christmas in the 1640's until the Restoration in 1660.
Also in Boston, the Pilgrims banned Christmas from 1659 to 1681. Those celebrating it were fined.

why do you celebrate it? do you celebrate it because of what it signifies to Christians or because of what it become?
seriously people lets think about it... we would be so much better off if it was scrapped... Less stress, less pressure to get the kids the most wanted toy/video game. Less consumer debt and happier people in general. Most people IMO celebrate it because its the done thing rather than because they believe in what its meant to stand for

You're quite right. The Puritans banned it during the Commonwealth.

I'm not going to cancel it - unless someone fancies telling my 3 year old it's off for me...

Re: Sorry Christmas is cancelled!!
IIRC, the early Christian church in an attemt to help convert us Northern European's to Christianity, they ripped off the pagan festival of Yule. At the time Northern Europeans found it easier to convert while keeping alot of the old traditions, and times of worship.

You gotta be kidding, less stress with the kids yelling and the wife \ g\f asking where her prezzie's are.
Maybe, but I think not, the 'meaning' may have been lost by many but a few still remember
