Atkins diet
Ok so middle age spread has kicked in BIG style in the last few months, due to a few things, change of job \ eating times and habits \ diet ( take what you can when and where ) So have decided to try the diet, end of day one, not too bad, gonna buy some decent scales tomorrow and see how its going, anyone on, or tried it yet a couple of lads at work said they lost somewhere in the region of a stone and a half in two months.
Not looking at anything as extreme as that, still not to bad a shape for pushing 40...lol, just want rid of the *ahem ....... love handle bars
EDIT :- not looking for pro's and con's , just interesred in the results if any of members

Re: Atkins diet
I tried it though some of the side effects arnt so pleasent....
1)Oily skin
2)greasy hair
3)halatosis (I think I spelt that right, bad breath basicly)
4)dihorhea
5)a musky smell to your sweat
6)outbreak of spots
You would have to be really unlucky to suffer from all of the above together. I got 1, 4 and 6 though it depends on the atkins foods that you eat, I ate a lot of tuna wich probably explains the oily skin, Dihorhea is quite common when you eat a high protien diet so I think most get that, infact from what I hear it has even been nicknamed 'the Atkins *****s'
Good luck anyway, though to be honest I found a balanced diet with as much exorcise as you can fit in does wonders (Simply cutting out potato, bread & pasta is enough to balance most peoples diets).

Ok thats on a good day as normal but what about a bad day..... sorry
No for now i've cut out bread, potatoes..etc.etc \ carb's ( not 100 % ) as you still get them elsewhere.
It's been....... not bad today, tomorrow may be a different story but I will stick with it untill i'm back down to my fighting weight lol

Re: Atkins diet
The big thing that people don't realise about the Atkins diet, is that although it makes you lose weight (by sending your body into a carbohydrate defficent shock, like diabetes does to sugar), it doesn't make you healthier. Given you can still eat greasy bacon, etc and still lose weight means you'd push your cholesterol level through the roof. One of the whole points of losing weight is to lower the risk of heart attack. It tends to suit already healthy people that don't have a lot of willpower and want to lose a little bit of visible weight.
Although it was/is huge in America, along with the simliar South Beach diet, some experts are starting to get worried. If I was you i'd have a quick read of their points first before commiting yourself.

As stated, I would but work times and places dictate that the healthy option isn't always available, don't worry I'll be carefull, and besides I could always audition for The new invisible man film....lol

When I get down to where I want to be, I'll start back with carbs, just balanced this time, watching how and what I eat

Re: Atkins diet
the thing about the aktins diet - apart from it screwing with your health... when you come off it you pile back the weight as soon as you eat carbs after the 2 week start. Also - your metabolism appears to become 'resistant' to it... ie. the first time you go on it you get results, the next time you try it the results arent as dramatic... etc.

Re: Atkins diet
The Nurse at the Diabetic Clinic tells me I need to loose weight - So I'm off to see the diatician next week - I hope they don't put me on some weird diet.
