Truckers, why is it ....

That they always try and over take other trucks on the way up a hill and run out of steam, thus creating tailbacks etc etc. I know they have jobs to do and times to meet but IMHO they could try and gage their speed and other trucks a bit better.

Or is it a game of cat and mouse maybe..... either way, annoying, sorry to any truckers

Re: Truckers, why is it ....

Trucks overtaking each other because one is going 1mph faster than the other is a never ending source of annoyance.

Yep, big time, it wouldn't be so bad on the down slope of a hill, at least one would win in a moments notice..... but as said annoying at the best of times and just sheer bloody mindedness at others

Re: Truckers, why is it ....

They must think they are F1 drivers because they get into the slipstream of the truck in front, build up momentum, then pull out. Trouble is, it doesn't really work very well in a big unaerodynmaic truck once you pull out into that brick wall of air - especially if it is going even just slightly up hill.
Ooo they must be so chuffed that they save about 10 mins on a 250 mile journey.

A decent rail freight service is what we need.

I remember when I used to use my old CB radio, you could hear them challenging each other to create the biggest tailbacks......

10-4 good buddy the only choice you have is to go square wheeled and take in a cuppa, maybe we, the car driving community should stop being so nice and stop them from pulling out, create atailback of trucks on the inside lane........mmmm, what do you think so come on truckers, show a bit of common sense..............please.

Yours truly FRUSTRATED

It's not just these that cause tailbacks

What about these and

and some of that Agricultural machinery should be banned from roads

Re: Truckers, why is it ....

Yes but agricultural machinery doesn't cause tailbacks on the motorway....IIRC they're not allowed on them?

There should be a law that forces agricultural and construction machinery to pull in every 300 yards or so on a single carriageways to allow traffic to pass.
The other day we had some local council git on a little ride-on lawnmower holding up peak time traffic for two miles. Pratt. It wouldn't have been as much of problem if the council hadn't artificially narrowed that particular road with chevrons and a bollards because otherwise you could have overtaken it safely.

Re: Truckers, why is it ....

IIRC a tractor has to pull over if a queue of more than 5 vehicles (i think it is 5) is behind it.

Ah, Truck Driver Songs......

From "Not The 9'o'clock News"........

I like trucking, I like trucking,
I like trucking and I like to truck.
I like trucking, I like trucking,
If you don't like trucking, tough luck.

On the road, you must be brave and tireless,
On the road, you can listen to the wireless,
On the road, you eat café food with pride,
You can throw it up outside.

The greatest kick in trucking comes from knocking down a biker,
Or swinging round a roundabout and picking up a hiker,
You're chatting up that piece of skirt who's sitting by your side,
Then pop the crucial question - a ride for a ride?

I like trucking, I like trucking,
I like trucking and I like to truck.
I like trucking, I like trucking,
If you don't like trucking, tough luck.

Perhaps the greatest laugh of all, that makes this life worthwhile,
Is waving on the car behind, giving him a smile,
With glasses and with gratitude, he revs his little load,
And meets another trucking truck, a-trucking down the road.

On the road, you must be tough and ruthless,
And the rumours that we're gay are truthless,
On the road, you can wear your shirtsleeves rolled,
You eat chocolate when it's cold.

From behind, we like to sneak up on you from behind,
Never mind, if you hit 'em never mind.

We like trucking, we like trucking,
We like trucking and we like to truck.
We like trucking, we like trucking,
If you don't like trucking, tough luck.

This 1 is still the best
Radar Love
Golden Earring

I've been drivin' all night, my hand's wet on the wheel
There's a voice in my head that drives my heel
It's my baby callin', says I need you here
And it's a half past four and I'm shiftin' gear

When she is lonely and the longing gets too much
She sends a cable coming in from above
Don't need no phone at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a wave in the air, Radar Love

The radio is playing some forgotten song
Brenda Lee's comin' on strong
The road has got me hypnotized
And I'm speedin' into a new sunrise

When I get lonely and I'm sure I've had enough
She sents her comfort comin' in from above
We don't need no letter at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a light in the sky

---- Instrumental Interlude ----

No more speed, I'm almost there
Gotta keep cool now, gotta take care
Last car to pass, here I go
And the line of cars drove down real slow

And the radio played that forgotten song
Brenda Lee's comin' on strong
And the newsman sang his same song
Oh one more radar lover gone

When I get lonely and I'm sure I've had enough
She sents her comfort comin' in from above
We don't need no letter at all
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a light in the sky
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love
We've got a thing that's called Radar Love

Just thinking of Smashie and Niceys introduction to this in Dutch (I think) on their Lets Rock CD.
