they are at it again

and people wonder why i seem to be paranoid about governments

the US transport security administration, may impliment a new security system for airports, as early as this summer.

the new system, is based on screening all passengers boarding at a US airport and conducting 'background' checks........

the system is called 'Computer Assisted Passenger Prescreening System' and the administration is asking all ticketing and booking offices to hand over details of consumers, incase any fail to provide the necessary details.

"Under CAPPS II, TSA will obtain the passenger's full name, home address, home telephone number, birth date and some information about that passenger's itinerary.

That information is then checked against commercial databases solely to verify the person's identity, TSA spokesman Mark Hatfield said.

Once the person's identity is verified, the name is then run through federal law enforcement databases to see if the traveler is a known or suspected terrorist, or has been convicted of a violent felony.

The passengers will then be assigned a security color-coding based on their potential risk to the flight."

now as much as everyone is going to 'jump on me' and say well they are doing this for security, think about this if they say 'we are secure' and ready for attacks then why are they 'scrutinising' everyone continually, they already have a system in place to check people who are suspected of a felony or anything 'abnormal' but the way i see it is, governments are scared especially the US, they have tried to contain the threat, and have been sucessful, but still 'fear' something may happen.........

Re: they are at it again

This is an improvement on CAPPS I which has caused problems by delaying innocent people because their name has been flagged up (take the war protesters graham was talking about)

With the extra information it should be simpler to identify that you are not the person on the no-fly list should your name get flagged.

You know, I could have swarn you were defending america's right to do what it felt it needed to protect it's home security in another thread...
