a survey compiled by austrian researchers, measuring the intelligence of people from 50 countries and regions, has gathered a mixed amount of data

the IQ based research showed:

hong kong is top of the table closely followed by south korea, japan, and singapore.

new zeland is 11th also on par with the british and belgians...........

i wonder if the study took in to account people who are expats not from that country originally...........

well i would like to know, exactly how they tested the IQ, if they wrote IQ tests who wrote them and under what conditions they were set...........

The asians round our way are certainly more intelligent than most. They are able to all share the one driving licence and get away with not paying for insurance or an mot on their cars

*This does sound terribly racist. Its meant to be a joke as so many of the asian community in pollockshields are known to evade insurance and mots. Infact recently my dads friends car was written off by his neighbours car rolling down the hill. Although he refused to admit it was his car and the police couldn't find any insurance or mot documents to link the car to him. So although it might seem racist, its true, albeit a generalisation for comedy value (as mr brent would say)

I dont know what they used, but I would be very surprised if they did not use standard Intelligence tests which are normed and standardized, and administered under set conditions. I very much doubt they wrote them themselves, as they would have serious difficulties publishing their results in scientific journals

Obviously, that does not mean you shouldn't take the results with a pinch of salt.

I think it's all a matter of attitude as much as aptitude.Many Asians are very much encouraged to get the very best education that they can by their parents and entire family especially the boys.It is a fact that Western education is failing the male half of the student population and it is common these days for girls to do much better than boys in western countries.The exception in my experience is among the asians where asian boys are as likely to do as well as the girls.

Must agree, Incognitas, that was my experience too. Asian parents generally have high aspirations for their children and this is reflected in the attitude of the children to their school work i.e. keen to learn and the attitude of their parents i.e. keen to provide support even at the expense of making personal sacrifices. Education is seen as the way to make social progress and get a good life. This was particularly true of girls, who wished to give themselves a better life while trapped between their Asian inheritance and the temptations of a western lifestyle.
