Every year IIRC about seven people die getting out of bed. Does this put you off getting out of bed? (Well, unless you're incredibly lazy! )

Accidents happen. Just because a "cluster" of events happens that's linked with something that's been in the news recently doesn't mean there's a "jinx".

It's just the human talent for pattern recognition.

Very true. What would be really unusual would be if clusters of accidents didn't happen. I can't remember the exact details, but if you ask people to try to generate a series of random numbers they will produce far fewer duplicate and triplicate series of digits than would happen with a proper random series of numbers. In other words, people are more suspicious of clusters of events than the facts warrant.
