The Gypsies are in town!
My town has had a little problem since the end of July, we had Gypsy's set up camp and take over most of the leisure centre car park. (They call themselves Gypsy's)
There were a lot of problems on the weekend in town, and some time in August there was a lot of problems when they were all out boozing after a gypsy wedding.
The council served them 30 days or whatever to move, apparently they hadn't moved that far to the leisure centre car park anyway. They moved from the leisure centre car park about 200yds to the car park of an adult education centre, they cut down a few trees so they could get their lorries complete with hiabs in. The council has kindly provided tham with a stand pipe for running water and 3 chemical toilets, all at the tax payers expense. the council has also kindly cleared the leisure centre car park of all the rubbish they left behind.
There has been more trouble in town again this weekend with them, there was another gypsy wedding on Saturday night. They took over a pub and basically threatened and intimidated all the regulars until they left, they were then on the door stopping anyone going in who was not invited to the wedding party. Apparently the landlord/landlady were frightened and thought it best to just keep serving them in the hope that they would not cause any damage and hopefully move onto pubs in the centre of town.
After getting bored, the gypsy's started smashing the place up. The police were called but it was no surprise that the police arrived after they had left the premises. My local had a call before 9pm from the police station advising all pubs in town to shut their doors and not let them in.
We have had a few tense moments for the past couple of months, when they have arrived there started their antics and quickly left when they can see there is enough numbers of fit enough people ready and willing to deal with them.
I bet not a single one will be prosecuted over the damage, disturbance or any other crime they have committed, isn't it strange what a two tier society we live in today. I cut down a tree in my garden on the weekend and it wouldn't surprise me if the council turned up to slap some sort of order and fine on me.
One rule for them, and another for the tax payer.

Re: The Gypsy's are in town!
Where I am, we've had a bit of a riot with Gypsy's in the paste week. All I've heard is some lad was shot in the foot by one of the Gypsy's and all hell broke loose - the police had to get there and close the site off because of the damage and the fighting. People were throwing stones & bricks at them.

True gypsies aren't bad. However, this lot sound like Pikeys who are another kettle of fish entirely.

Re: The Gypsy's are in town!
One of the guys from work who doesn't live in this area, stopped in town to pop into pick up his chinese from the takeaway, and his car was broken into and company laptop stolen. He was very foolish to leave it in the car like that, but apparently thefts from cars and breaking into garden sheds and garages has rocketed since these gypsys have been in the area.
They refer to themselves as gypsies, so who am I to try and correct them.
I think the vast majority of people around here will be glad to see them go, I have known them turn up for a fortnight and the crimes shoot through the roof but this time they have been here for around two months.
I dont know why they are sticking around so long, perhaps the pickings are rich.
I heard the local shoe shop sold huge numbers of shoes on Saturday morning before the wedding, I understand they have been trying to return them this week for a refund, in some cases they are damaged and are claiming they had been sold reject goods.
"Hey boss, you sold me faulty goods"
I think if they started trouble in my local on a friday or saturday there would be a huge riot, and the police would just stay away.

Not sure if you are allowed to say that.......I remember getting a load of abuse for using the term 'pikeys' on cf

I think you'll find that they call themselves "gypsies" when it suits them to be treated as a minority who "just want to live their alternative lifestyle, the way generations before them have done..."
As has been pointed out, I'd stake my hat on them being pikeys. Ah yes, the good old "travelling community"...

Re: The Gypsy's are in town!
I want to set the record straight here. they cannot be true Gypsy's then.
My Mother grew up in the country side, and the gypsy's near her could be trusted with the keys to ypu house and Rolls Royce, while you went on a 6-months cruise.
While you wouldn't trust a didicoye (not sure of the spelling) with anything while you walked around the block.
