Rottweillers Savage Baby to death
This brought a tear to my eye today.
A five month old baby girl has been savaged and killed by two Rottweillers guarding a pub...
http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/...234929,00.html
The dogs have since been destroyed.
Apparently, the baby girls parents were looking after the pub and the dogs whilst the landlord is on holiday.

Re: Rottweillers Savage Baby to death
That's absolutely disgusting.
The owners want locking up, they can't have spent a lot of time training them NOT to do such things.
Having said that, it's stories like this that make me hate big dogs, i'm a cat lover myself, i don't trust dogs, no matter what people say.
Poor baby, i can't even imagine what must have been going through her newborn mind when this was happening, amd where were the parent while this was going on anyway....

In my opinion these are dogs that should not be sold as pets.
There have been too many child deaths resulting from these dogs being agressive.
Terrible.

In my view we cannot immediately judge what went wrong, here, we don't know enough about it, we can only be very sad ..

other than to be pretty sure the owners of these dogs would also have said

Re: Rottweillers Savage Baby to death
Different breeds of dog have different temperaments, and thus, different uses. There's no way breeds of dog such as Rottweillers should be in a domestic environment - just too unpredictable, especially with children. It's grim but the dogs would probably have seen the baby as a food source. Poor kid.

Whilst what happened is a tragedy the dogs are not to blame here but the owners.
As anyone who has previously owned this breed will know (myself included) they are very loyal to the owner and the family and will protect the owner and the property at all costs.
The breed is well known for being protective and do get jealous if attention is given elsewhere.
They are not suitable for unconfident owners and therefore should never have been handed over to someone to babysit.
Its not the breed that should get a bad name but the owner.

I agree it is important for people to understand those dogs are bred and taught to be that way by owners who are inconsiderate to other people.

I have been around dogs most of my life, and I own with my partner a Dalmation and two Samoyeds.
In my time we have had many Rottweillers whom we cared for since my neighbours used to bring them over when they was going out for the night.
I often have friends up and the breeding pair which they are play with the other dog's sit stay on command and are the most loving and friendly pair you could wish for.
Any dog with the correct training and most importantly some love can be tame and loving to anyone.

Spot on IMO, unfortunately Rotweillers, etc. are naturally aggressive, it's in their nature, they need a lot of care and attention to be "safe" to be in a family environment and as such I think Rotweillers and other such "Dangerous" dogs should be compulsarily trained as should their owners in handling them

The dog when born is open to being taught, sadly many families/breeders train in the normal attitude the dog is stereo typed into.
The dogs in question that I know have not had their tails docked and they look much better for it in my personal view as it shows a person what mood the dog is in, and with them two it's always happy.
