This is a discussion forum, where we are permitted to air our views.
As long as there is conflict and un necesarry death, these things will always bring out derision from people.
I'm partly in agreement with SDA, although not entirely.
My point is, that nimrod could have crashed anywhere with the technical fault, it just happened ot crash in Afghanistan and not Scotland.

I totally agree we should air our views, it is just that I personally think we do not have the right to say how other people, especially the family of recently deceased people, should feel.

Re: 14 die in Afghan crash
My son is serving in Helmand province at the moment and i would prefer to make my own mind up not have it made up by someone else. Its not the nicest situation to be in watching the news each day about how many have died. What makes it worse are the do gooders who slag off our lads for being there. I know no one here is doing that, But it makes my blood boil to watch them on telly having a go at our lads when they are here not there.

Re: 14 die in Afghan crash
no one has said anybody should feel anyhting, SDA expressed his oppinion.
if you cannot respect his oppinion, do not expect to have your own oppinions respected.
Simple really.
But as I said, the plane could have come down anywhere, the fcat that its Afghanistan should not make any difference.

Re: 14 die in Afghan crash
I know a few people in afghanisgtan and a lot in iraq. IMO it doesnt matter if you agree they should or shouldnt have been sent in in the first place, theyre there now and they should be respected and supported by the people they are ultimatley protecting, the UK.

Agree with Lost and Confused. Accidents are accidents. As someone said, it could have happened in Wales, Scotland or Iraq.

My sympathies to their families.
My uncle is in Afghanistan with 3 Para. Always worries me when they announce yet another death or deaths in Afghanistan.

This is not entirely true. The aircraft and its crew are under a lot more stress because they are on active duty. They are performing tasks that go some way beyond those they would be performing if they were in the UK right now. The personnel get less R&R; for all I know the aircraft also gets less. I doubt it can be serviced to quite the same standard in Afghanistan as it would if it were here. The stress of the situation surely means things that would be spotted and fixed in a quiet hangar back home are more likely to get missed out in what is almost a war zone.
In short, I think it quite unlikely that circumstances would have coincided in the same way if the aircraft and its crew were in the UK right now and they would probably all still be alive.

Sincere sympathies to their families, my dad was in the RAF for 22 years, also thoughts for people like Tez's uncle, who are there, now ...
