Tour de France champion Floyd Landis tested positive for high levels of testosterone during the race, his Phonak team said Thursday on its Web site.
The statement came a day after the UCI, cycling's world governing body, said an unidentified rider had failed a drug test during the Tour.
And the statement came just four days after Landis stood on the victory podium on the Champs-Elysees, succeeding seven-time winner Lance Armstrong as an American winner in Paris.
Why doesn't this surprise me any more? Cycling is a gruelling sport and today's cyclists are breaking more and more records, but it's just getting ridiculous now
Re: Tour de France Winner Tested Positive for Doping
The Tour de France is an awe inspiring race, but it's being devalued by drug taking. I thought the sport had cleaned itself up, and I feel very sorry for the drug free riders.
Re: Tour de France Winner Tested Positive for Doping
yes another very bad day for the sport and not sure what to make of this.
Landis has already said he is innocent and come out with about 9 different reasons for this
the day before he cracked and lost over 10 mins and then the day he tested positive was the day he broke away and road for 120K on his own over the apls and won his only TDF stage win
it's shame this has happened after all the withdrawals at the start due to Operation Puerta in Spain but don't forget that uncovered people in several other sports too it's just that the only ones in the public at the moment are cyclists which seems very unfair to me
