well seeing as i am now officially a racist i can say black now.

Being on the receiving end of the likes of Combat 18 and a group of neo nazis for protecting my friend, i really do howl with laughter at being branded a racist.

the problem with this country is we have seized the liberal ideals and now we have taken them too far, this results in situations that this thread is all about, a respected academic being hounded out of his job by a bunch of students.
has it not occured that the sudents must have lead the dr to make that statement? i mean he isnt just going to walk up to a reporter and say....I support enoch powell.

the liberals here preach freedom and equality yet try to beat down on those that dont have the same political views as themselves.

anyway the world hasnt gone totally crazy, I just got tickets to go see Guns n roses next week

OK, here is my take on it:

The guy is an academic. He has quoted a theory, regardless of how well-respected that theory is, and stated the perception that the results of that theory produce. The theory would suggest something, and he has stated it. The problem here would seem to be not the theory, nor who said it, but the results themselves. Some people didn't like them, so they blame the Dr. for stating something that they don't like.

On a seperate issue, he has stated his admiration for a former politician (and I agree about him being the best PM we never had), and he is branded a racist - again, because of the narrow-minded perception that others have. He also states a view shared by many, which in no way infers he is racist - that of repatriation.

I personally don't think he did anything wrong. It would be interesting to know the breakdown of the people who heard him say this. ie how many white students complained, against how many non-white students didn't feel offended?

Finally, think of this: what kind of society are we living in where a tutor is out of a job because he says something that his students don't like?

funny really, my Indian friend now appears to describe himself as unacceptable. He is not bothered as long as he doesnt get called the shortened version of pakistani.

I was talking to a couple of my black friends about this. They are not blue, green or yellow. They are black in the same way I am white. Also has nasty 1950 over tones. "no coloureds" signs in America and here.

You'll probably find their skin actuall is a brown colour; and you are more than likely a shade of pink. So should we refer to each other by those colours? If your friends don't like the term "coloured" I would suggest that a) they are in a minority, and b) they should get out more.

They weren't students of the Dr. perchance, were they?
