This is NOT a lie - this is a fundamental principle of civilisation! The "lie" is to say that "people who are more intelligent are better".

Re: Is this racist?
I think this is a slap in the face for freedom of speech and Dr Ellis is a victim of political correctness.
We seem to be living in an environment where only one point of view can be expressed; the politically correct one. If you don't conform to that point of view then woe betide you....We are in danger of losing our diversity.
Whether we agree with what he said or not is irrelavent as he should have the freedom to express his point of view. Especially at a university where debate and discussion are supposedly encouraged.
As OB alluded that if the CRE had come out with the antithesis of this then there would have been much less noise made and I resent that tbh as it demeans the last letter of the above abbreviation.....(E)quality.

Re: Is this racist?
Depends
Was he saying it to promote discussion, and to raise an issue that needed to be addressed?
or
Was he saying it to provoke reaction, and to try and annoy people.
There is a difference between free speech and running about shouting "Fire, Fire!" - the difference between free speech and hate speech.

Re: Is this racist?
Ok so he made a single statement and is hushed out of his job.
Now if the asian teacher made the same statement aimed towards a white person what would be the outcome.
Nothing would be said as it would be racist to call the black guy racist.

So what you really mean is because of political corrrectness, we now cannot state truth?
The backlash over this is disgusting. This man is educated, spent a great deal of time passing on his knowledge to others, and now because of some students who disagreed with a comment he made, his career has been cut short.
I say suspend the students, after all, if they took exception to this and drummed up this support, they are the trouble makers.

It's not "truth".
The Bell Curve Theory ("Theory" being the operative word) has long and oft been discredited as a work of "scientific bunkum" in that the base sample criteria were "loaded" in favour of a desired and predetermined outcome.
Yes, he is educated - as such he should know better.

Sorry - But I quoted what you said (wrote) which seems, quite specifically, to relate to the case in question.

OK, for clarity - and without your quoting of Russ.

Certainly seems to be relevant and specific to the matter at hand.

Even from an academic perspective why should a university be expected to endorse the teachings of something as controversial and fundamentally flawed as the Bell Curve Theory by someone with the "baggage" that this guy has?

I agree with that statement. Take a look at the film "White Chicks". Now if 2 white guys dressed up as black women and behaved in a 'stereotypical' fashion of big black women, would that go down well? no. and it sure as hell would NEVER be released as a film!!!!! imagine the outcry.....
