Having had a very interesting conversation with a friend of mine, he came out with the following statement.....

" The day when the world comes to realise that you can live a good life without following a load of crap written thousands of years ago by people who nobody can prove ever existed is the day when we can aim for world peace. "

Obviously, we were talking about Religion here, but what are YOUR views on his statement???

In my opinion, I just don't think we'll ever see World Peace anyway. Times have changed so much that it'll just never happen.

I am not religious but if people want to be religious that is their choice.

When religious people try to enforce their beliefs upon others I am annoyed and angry.
When non-religious people try to enforce their beliefs upon others I am annoyed and angry.

Your friend is entitled to their opinions but comments like 'load of crap' is no different to religious people banging on about how everyone should convert and if you dont believe then you should 'die'.

Yes its true these days religion is blamed for so much but is religion truely at fault or is it indeed an easy excuse? There wil always be conflict in life, there will always be war and there will always be neadless deaths. Religion or no religion, people will fight - human beings are driven by success and power and money and greed. World Peace is all but a fairy tale.

I don't think we'll ever see world peace either. There's far too many people out there who think differently to everyone else - it's just what makes people "human".

I couldn't agree more with what you have said here. I myself am stuck in the middle. I was bought up a Christian, have been baptized and confirmed but as I get older I seem to question more and more. I guess things like The Da Vinci Code intrigue me.....

The questions are good.

A lot of children are brought into religion and grow up not really knowing any different. Adulthood gives us all an oportunity to question life, existence and purpose. This is what makes us strong and human.

It can turn out any way you make it - and noone should be afraid of making a decision. You may decide to leave christianity behind you, your faith may get stronger or something else may happen but without questions and knowledge then are we not just followers?

Being human is a wonderful thing - the choice to be individual. To believe what we want, to go where we choose. Everyone should be allowed to experience life regardless of where we are born or brought up.

It's a shame this is not always the case

I'm concerned your worried about fighting over nothing to fight for. Trust me there is nothing to be worried about

Again, something that makes us all human. And you have to agree, we do worry too much sometimes, but, if we had NOTHING to worry about, would life be boring????
