[Merged] Google Checkout - Paypal killer?
Google may soon introduce its own payment service to rival Ebay inc's PayPal, the company has declined to comment on the situation but it seems the code name is Google wallet.
Quote:
Rumors about a new Google payment service escalated following a panel discussion at a Piper Jaffray Internet conference on Thursday, the newspaper said.
At the conference, Scot Wingo, chief executive of ChannelAdvisor, a Morrisville, N.C. e-commerce consulting firm, said he believed the payment service would be launched soon, according to the newspaper

seems very plausable to me interns of being a revenue generator and expanding its own portfolio of services.
but would retailers be keen on allowing this form of service to be used in e-shopping ?

Re: Google to threaten PayPal ?
Knowing what we do of Goooooooogle's business model, I wonder if we could expect the service to display appropriate adverts based on our recent purchases?

Re: Google to threaten PayPal ?
I often find Google's adverts quite helpful.
Anyway, about time there was a rival to PayPal. Even better, I'd like to see a real rival to Ebay (yuck!).

As long as it's a bit more secure than their desktop search engine and web accelerator.

Re: Google to threaten PayPal ?
I used googles adverts for the first time last week.
As for the wallet, as long as it's not connected to the auction sites it could be useful.
However, will Ebay allow it to be used?

Re: Google to threaten PayPal ?
Competition is a good thing, it will only make paypal become better and google will be the same.
The ads is what I call acceptable advertising, they dont animate and they are small, even better they are usually targeted to stuff that interests you.

Re: Google Checkout
Looks to be all in $$$ though.
Would be good for us, I'm looking for a payment solution and we would be able to get credits for the adwords ads we do

PayPal wants binning, it's a con run by Ebay. How can they charge you twice for something like selling your item then they have the gall to charge you for getting your money.

ebay charge 3 times, 1. placing the ad, 2. if the buyer pays through paypal, 3. they also hit you with the FVF (final valuation fee) if the item you listed sells.
Some might find this free calculator helpful.. there is also a link to the new ebay calc on there too.

The service offers some free order processing to Google's millions of advertisers, but will initially be available only to stores in the US.
