I had an overdraft of £1250 from my student days. It was one of my aims to reduce this down to £100. I prefer Internet banking - much easier - so I used the overdraft facility to request a new overdraft of £100. A week later I receive a letter:

Only there weren't able to help - no one answered the phone. More than a little odd that they offer a facility they can't offer. So I tried the phone number at the top of the letter. Someone answers but cannot help - I have to ring the main telephone number. Spoke to Ram. I thought that was a male sheep, and would have preferred talking to said sheep, but no - was some Indian bloke. I explained what I wanted - I did this a few times. "Sorry - not able to reduce your overdraft to £100". I explained again that I wanted to reduce it - give you money (much money as it happens). But no - not having any of it. So I asked what he could reduce it to, thinking perhaps they want to reduce it stages. Ram's reply was, "Zero"

Had no choice but to say yes. I'm starting to feel like a leper - denied credit at every turn for no apparent reason. Got to love Abbey though - gone right down hill the Spanish took over, which is hardly surprising given that they spend half the day asleep. Then there's the outsourcing of the call centres, which is a thread in itself.
Sigh - skint now
