204 dogs in a shed

BBC
Quote:
Hundreds of dogs have been found in squalid conditions in a windowless 40ft (12m) garden shed in West Sussex.
204 starving Yorkshire terriers and six dead dogs were found in small carrier boxes full of excrement after the death of their 73-year-old female owner.
Lisa Gooch, from Brighton Animal Action, said: "I've never seen anything so horrific in my life.
"They were dripping from the urine they had been in for so long. Six of them were dead," she added.
Miss Gooch believes the dogs have been kept in the shed for years.
"Each of the cages was two-thirds full with excrement," she said.

Re: 204 dogs in a shed

I read that earlier and really didn't know what to make of it.

First though was sympathy for the poor dogs suffering in conditions like that, I do hope they recover from their ordeal ...

Second was wondering about the owners state of mind? The dogs were, obviously, being fed & watered, so being 'cared' for in a very basic fashion - I think she just couldn't cope, rather than was being 'cruel'.

It is all conjecture, of course, no improvement of the situation for the animals, for us knowing 'how' or 'why', it happened, just so, so, sad
