There has been some research that suggests it may be useful nutrient and hormone replacement therapy for the mother ... but for the father? He wants sending in for another session with the e-meter.

Companies in the US now freeze the cord as its great source for stem cells which can save the kid's life (and sometimes his siblings' lives) after birth if the kid develops diseases and stuff

Seems a silly waste to eat it...

Bit like him saying that Katie Holmes couldn't make any noise during pregnancy(in lines with his beliefs) just to deny it days later? Hmmmmm the cynic in me would agree with the thought that someone has a film to promote and would say things to grab headlines and then retract them to keep their names on the pages

In China they ask the mother if they mind if they take the placenta so they can cook it and eat it...

I've heard that in some hospitals they offer to buy it as well...

Hmm!The only thing I asked to do with the placenta was to actually look at it.It's a very unusual disposable organ and I was sufficiently interested to want to see what it looked like.It's is probably very tasty considering how rich it is in blood vessels but somehow it seems like eating part of one's own body..something I might consider trapped on top of the Andes miles from rescue but not straight after giving birth..I'll leave that to the lesser organisms who do it to hide the evidence of a birth from predators.

That's true most of the time, but I don't think it is in Scientology cases. Celebrity scientologists have spokespeople that heavily regulate what stars say so they don't make scientology appear in a bad light, even accidently. Chef from South Park has one, so I am sure Tom Cruise would.
