You make a very valid point about not all palestinians being rabid fundamentalists , and Id add that not all palestinians are terrosrists either. My opinion is that the reason Hamas has been voted in is because Hamas has been against ccorruption in palestianian govt, exposing it when it occurs. Additionally they have set up community schemes looking after the social welfare of the palestinians, as well as building links between traditional and modern islam. I feel positive that this could be a turnaround for the current palestinian / israeli turmoil, with both sides coming up with concrete long term solutions

Do you think Israel will actually enter into any kind of conversation with Hamas though? Imagine the DUP and Sinn Fein, but 100 times worse.

Not until Hamas stop calling for the destruction of Israel and give up their weapons.
Maybe with Hamas in power, the EU will stop or at least reduce their funding so things will get harder and the political wing of hamas will eventually overpower the terrorist wing.
Much like with the IRA where their funding from america has been slashed since 9/11 so their criminal activities increased and they lost public support as the political side showed a more obtainable route to the end goal.

That's true. In the past Israel has caved in to terrorist groups before by giving into some demands for truces (which the terrorists later break). There is a precedent there anyway.
Israel haven't really indicated any change in policy, although everyone's a bit unsure after Sharon fell ill.
You can't really blame Israel for not talking to Hamas whilst Hamas calls for its destruction. Who would?
All Israel want is the terror to stop. Its not to do with Israel's history and actions, its because Israelis are Jewish. If the terrorists actually heeded some peace plan, then Israel would be willing to hand over big concessions to the Palestinians.
