Because of constant comparsions to ITV and SKY. With a unwillingness to accept the good they have done and the extra activitys and services they provide. Incog has already mentioned the use the schools and education get out of it.

Programmes most of which are made by other companies like Granada for the BBC. I dont see why the goverment shouldn't pay for this directly common sense wouldn't you say it could come out of the education budget ?
The pro licence people can keep on trying but the arguments are getting old now

What a ridiculous argument - I've had cable / digital for about the same length of time as you, but it doesn't stop me from watching programmes on the BBC channels, or listening to Radio 1 on the way to work!
As Coggy says, we're looking at 30-odd pence a day! So what? It's not like you'll get a lot else for that money every day, is it?
TBH, I'd like to know why some anti-licence people find it so hard to understand that some people actually think that the BBC do quite a good job

Re: TV licence fee to rise to £131.50
To you maybe,
The government can not keep paying for everything uder the sun. They do not have a unlimited supply of money.
Again the BBC are not just about programmes. They have many other benfits such as the websites and recent stuff to find talent. Again many of out best actors and writers have come from the BBC and programmes like Fawlty Towers, The Office and Monty python are BBC programs. They have given us so much.
They also raise issues, many difficult ones. In programmes and documentrys as well as then providing support for people effected by them via phonelines and such.
Go to the BBC website and you can find places where they offer good, expert advice and support for people with illnesses or problems. Such as terminal illnesses and suppport for young people (another thing BBC does a lot of)
They are not just a tv channel

So you'd deprive schools of money to spend directly on their pupils, just because you don't agree with the TV licence?
Dunno about old arguments, but I bet people would start complaining if schools didn't have enough money to buy textbooks and the like...

No I just dont like what I see on the BBC as for radio I dont listen to it much apart from talksport and the hits (thats not much I like cds) but dont you think its good we can get a good choice of channels for 19p a day from NTL
Why do you find it so hard to understand that those who don’t wish to watch the BBC don’t like subsidising those who do?
Its past its sell by date

So you don't receive BBC as part of your package on ntl? Is your TV incapable of receiving BBC channels?
Of course you get BBC on ntl, and of course your TV can receive the channels. Ergo, you have the choice not to watch them - doesn't mean that you shouldn't pay the licence, just because you might not choose to watch them.

Do you find subsidising other stuff you do not use, such as the arts, though your taxes is always unfair?
Do you not see the other vital services they offer that many people use?

I pay my licence doesn't mean I should watch the crap they show though doe's it. At the end of the day people like me keep you happy because its keeping your viewing costs down which is wrong

No, it is the same.
Do you think that we should be funding Art and Theater for those who want to watch it? Is it fair that those who have on intrest in it should have to pay for those who do? Art is not a required cost of running this country.
Also do you accept or not accept the good the BBC has done to our culture and reputation. As well as the countless other stuff they provide?
Here is one site they have set up for young people, free of charge and advertising. Giving a very unbiased view
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/onelife/
Actually look at the site and the help it provides. Look at the forums and how they are helping young people
These are important questions so stop dismissing them and avoid the issue calling it pro licence rubbish. It is not. My views are no less important than yours, so answer the questions or dont debate.

It's not keeping my viewing costs down at all - I pay 42 quid a month to Sky plus my licence fee direct debit, so you'll technically find that I'm keeping your viewing costs down.
The way I see it is that you belive that, seeing as you've made the choice not to watch 'the crap' that the BBC broadcast, you would like to remove the choice of the remainder of the licence paying public. How very fair-minded

And fair play to them.
The other 23.5hrs of televised viewing that day was still a load of rubbish for me. But meh, I hold only 1 opinion.
