British Spies In Moscow
Quote:
|
Russia accused Britain on Monday of running a James Bond-style spying operation in Moscow using a receiver hidden in a fake rock to gather secret information, and said it had been caught "red-handed" funding pressure groups.
|
Surely with organisations such as the CIA and MI6, espionage is practised all over the world by most countires. Is this instance really a cause for concern?

Re: British Spies In Moscow
Is it just me but the whole thing seem's a bit daft, unless the rock was thrown through an important window somewhere how much worthwhile intelligence is it going to gather.

Re: British Spies In Moscow
I heard on a news channel that the 'rock' picked up a lot of local 'data' traffic

I am being daft again, what the hell is data traffic, I am presuming that it is when people walk past the rock it picks up on snippets of conversations, are you really going to learn much from that?

Re: British Spies In Moscow
Just goes to show how technically minded I am.
Also You-Knows-It is right, the government said last year that large numbers of Russian intelligince agents were in this country and that their purpoise here was for intelligince gathering operations.
Also people are saying its like the plot from a Bond film, well that must be why they are struggling for plots, in the old days if he needed information he would just kill someone or bed some stunner, not these days he put's rock's in peoples gardens.

Re: British Spies In Moscow
If some Russians were using unencrypted wifi or something, more fool them. They must have rocks in their heads.
Anyway, that's not the only interesting Russian story this week - what about the Georgians being cut off from Russian gas by a highly suspicious explosion on the pipeline into the country. The area it's in is apparently under Russian control and it's a Russian pipeline, so the Georgians are blaming, er, the Russians, who don't like the whole 'Western democracy' thing the former Soviet republics. A nice dose of cold realism from Moscow, followed by a large gas bill will follow, I suspect. Is anyone else really worried that the KGB are effectively dictating Europe's energy policy?
