Why do they call him "rent boy"? he was 23 and he was costing Oaten 250 per hour (The escosrt was charging for his time, everything else was acts between consending adults)

'rent boy' sounds sleazier, and sleaze sells. R4 likes to think of itself as a bit above that.
Quick scan of the 'quality' news sites:
Guardian - 'male prostitute'
Independent - 'rent boy'
Times - 'rent boy'
Telegraph - 'male prostitute'
The Independent and Times are tabloids. The Telegraph and Guardian aren't. Interesting - perhaps changing the format changes the language as well.

Indeed...he was 23 years old...but on the other hand female prostitutes are "call girls" not "rent girls" ... even their 30s....but the price of 200-300 quid per hour!

My seedier companions inform me that 'escort' is the PC term employed here. £300 an hour? I'd expect a couple of stunners with a donkey thrown in for that money. Maybe I just expect too much.
