Legal Aid?? Of course
BBC
Quote:
Millionaire lotto winner Michael Carroll has been granted legal aid to fight a court case next week.
The ex-binman, who won £9.7m in the lotto, is accused of affray and is due before Norwich Crown Court on Monday.
A government spokeswoman confirmed that Mr Carroll, 22, of Downham Market, Norfolk, had been granted legal aid.
But she said it was "a matter of course" for it to be awarded initially, however the cash can be reclaimed later on the orders of a judge.

She added a court official would then investigate the defendant's means and a judge can order the costs to be recovered.
|
Can order? Let's hope that it WILL be ordered.

Oh yes please, let it be recovered ... every penny he spends in court is a penny less for him to spend harassing his neighbours with his wild lifestyle ....

Well lets hope he gets charged through the nose by whoever represents him For once I won't complain about the ammounts charged by Lawyers etc..... just as long as it comes out of his pocket and not the pockets of the tax payers.

Re: Legal Aid?? Of course
Apparently anyone can apply for legal aid - but those genuinely in need are later judged to be not required to pay it back.

Re: Legal Aid?? Of course
I personally think this is the way it should be.... when you need legal aid or advice, you usually need it immediately and can't wait for your entitlement to be determined by the courts.
The following quote in the article sums it up quite succinctly, imo.

Are you sure you meant to include the word 'not'... (the way the system seems to work.)
