Why is he allowed to keep his million pound house and 100 grand car if they are from the proceeds of crime? I thought the courts confiscate assets of criminals now.

Perhaps the nadsat dictionary will help.
You mentioned A clockword Orange. Nadsat is the slang Alex and his droogs speak in ACO. I was referring to the incident where the bums beat up Alex after he's been through the Ludovic treatment. Something which I normally don't agree with, but I might make an exception in this case.
