yeah normally there's reporting restrictions which obviously in this case aren't in place. I was mearly wondering if we should be talking about it and assuming they are gulity/innocent prior to a conviction.

Being that part of the charges is one of rape, I am assuming there will be DNA evidence, First hand witness claims rape of her dead friend, together with DNA evidence lays a huge plus to the claims of the prosecution.

establishing their precise (twisted) motivation for this crime perhaps is a way of ensuring they dont claim it was a lovers tiff or something else which resulting in the murder. it sounds like the prosecution have got a well professionally gathered case.

Now that makes sense, lets hope the CPS sucessfully convince the jury.

An update.

One of the men accused of killing Mary-Ann Leneghan has now admitted murdering her, attempting to murder her friend and kidnapping them both.
OK.

Johnson continues to deny charges of rape and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
I'm slightly confused. Why admit to the slightly worse crime but deny the lesser crime?Am I missing something here?

A murderer in prison - just another prisoner. But a rapist? They need protecting from the 'ethics' of the other scum in jail.

I guess if he's going to jail he'd rather not have to go on the protected wing with the other pervs...

Re: Mary-Ann 'was killed in revenge'

Will he still get the reduction in sentence for pleading guilty even though it was towards the end of the trial?

Either he genuinely didn't take part in the alleged Rape + assalt and is trying to get a lower sentence by pleading guilty*.

Or he's pleading guilty to what he knows that can prove and hoping that the other charges will be dropped as they already have him for something.

If I was the prosecution, I'd want this guy up in the witness stand because if he is really guilty then I'm sure he remembers who else was there that night….

Scarlett.

*or he's feeling remorse for what he did.
