Prescott apologises on tax bill
Quote:

Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has apologised after admitting council tax bills for one of his official homes were paid with taxpayers' money.....Mr Prescott said the mistake was an "inadvertent error" and that he had thought he was paying council tax on all of his three homes.....Mr Prescott, who is in charge of council tax, said it was a mistake and he was reimbursing the government.....The Conservatives said a "sustained campaign" of parliamentary questions and Freedom of Information Act requests by Ms Spelman had prompted Mr Prescott's admission.....Exeter pensioner Sylvia Hardy, who was jailed for failing to pay her council tax, said she was "staggered" by the news about Mr Prescott.

Re: Prescott apologises on tax bill
Anyone know you inadvertently get your council tax paid by the government?

Oops, another blow for TB, and I didn't fast-track the nannies visa how much more corruption / mis-doings ( accidents ) are gonna come to light this week he may as well get it all over and done with. Seriously though, if it were you or I we would have been taken to court for fraud, what's gonna happen to him ?????? Time will tell, as if we don't know already.

Re: Prescott apologises on tax bill
And, to think, that in my area (Bromley) we are paying a higher council tax because some of the council's government funding "accidentally" got paid to a council up north.
Of course, they cannot reclaim it.

Re: Prescott apologises on tax bill
The council tax of all the taxes in the country is the most archaic. You can imagine knight in armer knocking on your door saying bailiffs if you can't pay.The councils have rediculas rights in this manner who do they think they are.But of course the problem in this country as proven with the poll tax and the tv licence is that they wont stand together against such dogma and the wheel just keeps turning

Re: Prescott apologises on tax bill
I would rate the tv licence as the worst tax with council tax close 2nd, although the council tax is more money I rate it behind because poor people can claim council tax credit, there is no means testing whatsoever for tv licence payments.
