Re: Golden Wonder is bust
Looks like a case for the Office of fair Trading if this is proved true about the market place being dominated by one crisp maker, I doubt they would get involved though because Walkers have got the Government in their pockets. It says they generated sales of £88million last year, what the hell went wrong this last year? Looks like asset stripping to me.

Re: Golden Wonder is bust
Golden Wonder probably relied too much on its brand name, thinking that would be enough to compete with the likes of Walkers. I cannot recall a single Golden Wonder add I've seen on TV in the last 3 months, and additionally I cannot recall them launching new products as Walkers have. Addiotionally I have friends in wholesaling who say Golden Wonder would never compete on price with Walkers.
Maybe they could have done more to save the company, thinking you're safe because you're British is simply not enough.

Re: Golden Wonder is bust
As far as I know, Walkers do not make 'own label' snacks, only their own brand.
This means that their brand sales do not have to subsidise the own label production, unlike Golden Wonder.
Looking at the reports, the plan seems to be to consolidate the production of Golden Wonder brand & own label on one site & shut down the other one.
I think, although it is speculation, that this is as much to do with the supermarkets screwing their suppliers, as anything else.

Re: Golden Wonder is bust
AFAIK, Golden Wonder make all the own-band crisps for Sainsburys, Tesco, etc.
HP seems to be doing OK still with their nuts, Hula Hoops, Skips, etc.
