Dick Cheney rushed to hospital
Quote:
Vice-President Dick Cheney has been rushed to hospital after suffering shortness of breath and apparent fluid retention.
Mr Cheney, 64, has a history of heart attacks.
He had his fourth heart attack at the end of 2000 and in June 2001 he was fitted with a pacemaker.
The vice-president also had a successful operation to repair damaged arteries - or aneurysms - on both his knees in September 2005.
|
Is this another heart attack? There were predications that Condi Rice would become VP this year (maybe in a run up to the next election) Would he resign now?
Maybe its not serious...

Hopefully, she seems to be one of the more sensible members of the Bush administration. (not really difficult I know)
I think they are grooming her for a potential run as a presidential candidate.
It would be interesting to see her go head to head with Hilary Clinton.

Dezzo
I all honesty I've got more chance of winning £100,000,000 on the Euro Lottery, than Ms Rice has becoming the President of the US.
Because she is a) A woman b) Black.
The US still has a lot of predjustice

Re: Dick Cheney rushed to hospital
Sadly I think the above is very true.

Re: Dick Cheney rushed to hospital

Put someone in the role who's going to run for President in 08 this would give
Tham a head start over any Democratic candatate.

Ahhh. I forgot Women and Blacks don't get the vote in America yet
Colin Powell had the top military job and from memory a number of the Supreme court justices are women (as well as an African-American)
America has far more prejudice than the UK but we have already had a female leader about 25 years ago. I can see the US following in the next 2-3 elections.

I think America is ready now. Also if both partys have women candidates then voters will have no choice other than to have a woman, much like they have not had much choice other than a man.
If Rice runs then Clinton will likely run against her. The Dems are traditonally seen as a more progressive and liberal party and would not want to see the Republicans beat them to the first woman candidate. They also would not want to lose a large amount of women voters. Especailly ones lost to the republicans in recent years.
The only way to fight a woman candidate is with another woman candidate. There may be a lot of sexism in america still but not though to defeat a candidate or enough to overturn existing party loyalitys.

It would be a good time for him to be impeached and then put on trial for war crimes, frankly. But that's been true for a while.
He won't resign - he's too powerful. Normally VPs are just a flag waver who's put there to get some votes the top man doesn't appeal to (hence the common south/north split ticket, like Clinton/Gore). In this case that doesn't apply - he's far more effective an operator than the President and what he does (mainly) is help his buddies get richer at the expense of the US taxpayer*. No sign of that letting up, so why resign? Come 2008 he'll be out of there with a big bag marked SWAG and that's the whole point of the exercise. The next sucker has the job of clearing up the mess. This is not politics as usual, it's a superpower being hijacked.
* And the people of Iraq, of course. Oh, and the reputation of his country. And human rights. And international law.
