Daily Express
In past weeks the Express's headlines have covered the following
New ice age
(bad winter ahead)
No turkey for Christmas
(bird flu)
3 Day week
(bad winter,no fuel)
Blackout
(bad winter, no fuel, 3day week)
Christmas Banned
(Muslim)
I'm sure there are more, they also run the occasional 'House Prices Plummet/ Council Tax To Triple' stories.
It really worries me that this negative 'reporting' helps no one other than newspaper sales.

They take the morale high ground and then cynically exploit the fears of the public for cash.
Nice people

I don't know any media company (including the BBC) who don't do this.
Just listen to the Today program in the mornings on Radio4 and you'll here some outrageous attempts at scaremongering, just as you will on GMTV

Re: Daily Express
If I went in to a crowded cinema and shouted 'fire!' then I'm sure I'd end up prosecuted. So why does it seem so unfair that newspapers can get away with scare stories on the cover?

Tell me about it!
I'd love to have a news channel, or news paper, or even an online news page which just gave all the facts, with cavets covering where they got the facts from etc so you get a balanced view.

Re: Daily Express
The Express seems to be trying to out-Mail the Mail, though thankfully it carries far less weight.
Testcard, you forgot the 'banks ban piggy banks' (another spurious anti-Muslim front page lead) story. Crass and provocative nonsense which unfortunately gets picked upon by even posters here. Mind you, its not just the Express, Mail etc that are guity - have a look at the Christmas is Banned (why it seems to come around every year that line) thread which, despite being shown to be a load of old tosh, is still attracting posters who bemoan the loss of British culture blah, blah.
Of course, all the papers - tabloid, broadfsheet, compact or Berliner - love a scare story. I remember some years ago The Observer claiming milk was gonna get us. Strangely itr never happened. However, some are more guilty than others. Was it the Mail which ran a headline saying Avian flu will kill x number of people?
Then there's the govt which is complicit in creating a climate of fear.
Ooooh, you've depressed me now!

Front page headlines in the Express are a joke. You find a scare and the Express is sure to monger it. Interestingly they appear to have abandoned the long-running illegal immigrant one. What I find particularly amusing is the way that the Express seems to claim credit for a "successful" outcome to whatever particular bee it has in its bonnet that week. I can't wait for, "Express campaign stops Armageddon in its tracks. God admits that he was wrong."
