So, once again the mindless minority get to spoil it for the rest of us?
Every time someone reacts to something like this with a call for a ban, it's allowing the scum-of-the-earth minority to dictate public policy. They'll just find something else to express their limited brain function, but the rest of us have to do without as a result.
If they simply raise the bar to obtaining fireworks we'd be a long way on the right track. Raise the age limit. Demand photo ID. Record sales against ID. Limit the outlets. Seems any store sells the stuff now.
Prosecute the 18+ y/o scumbags that pass the stuff on to younger scumbags - and make it a serious prosecution!
There's plenty that could be done to reduce the risk of this kind of abuse without depriving everyone. There just isn't a will to do so.
Meanwhile, terrorists need not manufacture explosives this month - just buy it over the counter. (Yet another good reason to only sell the stuff with photo ID!)
I suppose we'll have to wait until some kid is blown up for a mobile movie and then the kneejerk ban that will follow.

Re: Runaway Dog 'blown apart'
Here we go again, some idiot blew up a dog so lets ban fireworks, yawn, yawn, yawn.
Quite a few idiots this year have killed people with their cars, let's ban them. I'm sure TV has been held responsible for a few deaths this year, let's ban that. While we are at it, alcohol & smoking kills thousands each year, lets ban them .....

Slight difference between something that is directly responsible to something that is not. i.e. smoking == death (oversimplification, I know), but driving != death (necessarily)
However, I generally am anti-banning - i.e. I would probably call for a ban on banning things!

Re: Runaway Dog 'blown apart'
Its not just one dog that has died this week through fireworks but a horse also died and the rest was rescued when a fireworks attack set fire to the Stud Stables. Sadly its not just one or a few mindless idiots but the majority of todays youth have some wierd idea of what is fun, no respect and nothing betweeen the ears. You can watch them going through primary school and you know they are heading for a fall regardless of what you try to teach them.

Not really, fireworks do not mean death, or harm, unless deliberately made to do so (by choice) by said idiots. I have not killed a single person or animal with one in 30 years.

Indeed - EXACTLY the point I was making.
Similarly I (and many, many, many others) never shot anyone with a handgun, but still they banned them because of ONE nutter.

Slight difference. You have to be licenced (& insured) to drive a car on the public highways. I could walk into my local newsagents tomorrow and come out with a box of explosives in pretty packaging (which is essentially what fireworks are).

Not the majority, more like a minority. Most teenagers would be appalled and disgusted by this.

Exactly, so let's learn the lesson and not go down that stupid, pointless, route again.

The idiots who mess with fireworks are unlikely to be licensed or insured when they mess with cars. They are just as likely to kill someone.

I have to admit, I am not particularly for the outright ban on the sale of fireworks. A**h*les will find a way to do this sort of stuff anyway (after all, we are talking about people who's idea of fun maybe to stand on flyovers throwing concrete posts at cars). I personally think sales should be limited however (to a couple of weeks a year)

Re: Runaway Dog 'blown apart'
I think the only justice for these people who did this is to be held in a mental health institution as you must have something wrong in your head to harm a living thing in such an pycopathic way.
