Well apart from the obvious, is this really news angle this thread could go down, why should they be gobsmacked?
The price of the sofa is obviously significantly inflated to cover the financing costs and default risks of the 4 year interest free credit, so you either demand a 25% (say) discount, or take advantage of the deal, or am I missing something?
After all, DFS feel that the VAT they should pay on the sale should be on the amount DFS recieve, not the full value the customer pays (via the finance house)
It would seem to me that DFS effectivly makes a supernormal profit on a sale that does not involve interest free as they get their normal markup, and also the cost of financing they would normally lose to the finance house.

Primback, a small furniture firm unconnected to DFS, has argued that the "taxable amount" for VAT purposes should be based on the sum received by the vendor (i.e. the customer's payment less any commission paid to the finance house) and not the full price paid by the customer. The case currently awaits the House of Lords for a final adjudication.
While the Lords deliberate, there has been some Primback 'progress' made. Last month, DFS revealed that £17.4m worth of VAT that HM Customs & Excise had tried to claim back was no longer recoverable. After associated tax of £2.6m, the resultant £14.8m 'windfall' forms the basis of the 14.1p special dividend.
At the end of January, DFS held £56m that was subject to the Primback VAT dispute, of which £44m was subsequently given to HM Customs & Excise after the half-year to "protect ongoing appeals". DFS is still contesting all amounts claimed.
In addition, HM Customs & Excise has recently been ordered to repay DFS £6.2m, plus interest and costs, in relation to VAT payments made back in 1997. However, this action remains subject to appeal.

Re: The Invoice of an Angel
Mummy said she could afford to pay cash, though she may be feeling a bit poorer after splashing out £500k on the new pad.

Re: The Invoice of an Angel
First of all she's Welsh so leave her alone.
Secondly, she's entitled to an interest-free deal just like everyone else.
And thirdly, what wrong with her looking after her money? Better than splashing out on gold-plated toilet seats like MC Hammer did.

Exactly, why is DFS, or whoever made this newsworthy "GOBSMACKED" and calling her a "CHEAPSKATE" for asking for it?

What happened when you went to use his bathroom, did he tell you that "You can't touch it"?

Re: The Invoice of an Angel
Charlotte Church buys sofa shock!!!!!
No doubt followed by Charlotte Church shops at ASDA exclusive!!!!!
The fact that she has taken up the offer that the store is now famous for offering is surely not news worthy.
I've bought two suites and a dining room set from DFS and taken the buy now pay later deal and I don't consider myself a cheapskate as they cost thousands.

it's because she's got money and these people are supposed to throw it away on expensive things and no-longer act like....(shock horror)... normal people - having met her once, she's one of the most down-to-earth celeb I've spoken to.

Re: The Invoice of an Angel
How the hell did they get the "story"
Surely there is a breach of the DPA if it came from a member of DFS staff?

She may have been overheard asking for the credit - DPA wouldn't apply then.

Re: The Invoice of an Angel
I'm still laughing at MC Hammer 'splashing out' on the toilet seat.
"if you sprinkle, when you tinkle, be a sweetie - wipe the seatie"

Re: The Invoice of an Angel
I'm glad to see she has her feet on the ground and some commin sense after all.Now she needs to apply it to the men in her life...
Seems to me celebs and the famous can't win whatever they do.Someone will always take what they say or do amiss.Just like the Monarchy.

Was just thinking that.
Tempted to go in, show a liking for an expencive three piece suite, and when interest free deals are mentioned say "Are you calling me a cheapskate?!?!" and storm out
