Church criticised in abuse probe !
I'm really not Surprised that
This has been going on for so long with nothing done about it especially after so many years of people ignoring this
Seems to be a very long history of the Roman Catholic Church Abusing The young people of Ireland .

Re: Church criticised in abuse probe !
Saying "the Roman Catholic Church abusing the young people of Ireland" is utterly innacurate.
The fact is, paedophiles are drawn to any position within society that has elevated responsibility, especially when children are involved.
Teaching as an example.
To say the church as a whole is responsible is only vaguely plausible by association and a possible lack of self policing.

Six of the 21 priests have been named in the report but 15 others are identified by numbers as allegations against them have not been proven in the courts.
|
By my reckoning, thats all the priests of the diocese
So if all the priests there were (possibly) abusing kiddies, at which point does it become the church abusing kiddies.

Oh but it's not innacurate thay knew about both of the above for years and years and did nothing but cover it up tus makeing the Roman Catholic Church
As guilty as the priests.

Re: Church criticised in abuse probe !
I have no reason or predisposition to defend the Roman Catholic church, I'm just concerned that the lumping together of all members of that particular group under this accusation is a bridge too far.

It's not a bridge too far the Roman Catholic church worked as a whole to cover
It up. if a priests was found to be abusing a kid in one church thay where Simply moved to other that pretty much lumps tham together in my opinion.

I would normally agree, it's just that in this case they do all appear to have been involved......

From what I heard on a program some time ago on Radio 4, it was viewed by the church as more of a lapse in celibacy than child abuse.

Re: Church criticised in abuse probe !
Lets face it though it's not just the church that has peoblems with this sort of abuse of position. Like many other areas of society when the abuse has been discovered there has been an attempt to cover up what has happened to minimies the damage. Unfortunately the church has become very good at ignoring this problem and now finds itself facing increasing criticism for it's handling of the numerous complaints and cases of abuse.

Re: Church criticised in abuse probe !
I was educated by Priests. It was a boarding school. Yes there was abuse. Do I know who was involved? Yes. Will I spill the beans? No.
Its time to move on.

That's it, move on. The boys currently in the care of the abusers can fend for themselves. After all, you survived it, why should they have any help.
Not a good attitude, IMHO.

imo you owe it to those who were abused and society in general to 'spill the beans'. You may even stop others being abused.......

The priest died a few years ago. No point.
