Expelled? Why?

BBC
Quote:
The father of a pupil at an exclusive private school plans to sue over its attempts to expel the boy.
Rhys Gray, 15, from London, has been a student at Marlborough College in Wiltshire for three years.
But the school has said it does not want him to return to the sixth form in September because of a poor disciplinary record.
Rhys's father is taking the college to court to try to stop them barring the teenager from returning.
Quote:
He said: "We are bringing the case quite simply because we feel we've been unfairly treated and because it's a product of an over-reaching power that private schools generally seem to be exerting."
And his son says that the 400 misdemeanours he is being punished for are all relatively minor.
"It was chewing gum, forgetting books, stuff like that," he said.
He added that he had been caught smoking and once disciplined for having beer.
OK I can see their point about minor things but I'm with the school on this one, minor midemeanours are one thing but 400 ocassions? I think someone has a discipline problem

Re: Expelled? Why?

It's a farce. People know the rules (or should do, having been pulled up for breaking them 400 times), then complain when someone says enough is enough. My only gripe here is why the college allowed him to stay on after so many offences? Particularly when one of them involved him having alcohol (a criminal offence at his age anyway).

What is the world coming to? And what the hell does his father think he is doing, by standing up for him?

Outrageous behavior. He is slagging off private schools and then trying to go to court to force one to accept his son. Muppet.

Re: Expelled? Why?

Probably because his father thinks that as he paid for a private education, he can call the shots and over-ride the school's decision. Of all the schools I deal with, it tends to be the parents at the private schools that will stand and argue with me when they don't like the fact that their little darlings have not made the grade! And of course I don't back down.

Exactly, from a posh public school, probably a spoilt obnoxious little **** who thinks he can get away with anything because he has a rich dad.

Kick his ass out.

Re: Expelled? Why?

Obviously daddy wants some form of return on his £29000 p/a investment Personally he would be better off teaching his son a few lessons in behaviour, respecting authority and humility.

Re: Expelled? Why?

Bad parenting is not confined to the working class or the underclass. It just takes different forms with the wealthy feckless parents.

Re: Expelled? Why?

A perfect example of a case where the parent(s) refuse to support school discipline.

Is it any wonder there is a shortage of teachers....

Re: Expelled? Why?

The funny thing is that the college is the one my nephew attended. He hated the discipline and refused to enter the 6th form.

Re: Expelled? Why?

You do have to wonder quite what he was expecting sending his kid to a British public school like Marlborough - a holiday camp, perhaps?

I believe his case is that the school is finding an excuse to throw him out to shore up their grades, which is possibly true (but good luck proving it). But presumably in a private school environment you have to put up with that sort of thing - they're in it as a business after all.

Getting expelled from public school isn't all bad of course - many of our notable historical figures started off being given the boot, although amazingly enough the internet comes up empty handed on a 'Famous Public School Expulsions' list, so I shall have to resort to steam-powered paper research.

Not quite. They tend to register as charitable trusts.

Why? The Human Rights Act only applies to Government bodies, as I'm sure you know.

People who abuse the system on which this country runs, as far as i`m concerned, have no rights.
Anyone who goes against the law and order in this country have no rights, if we went to other nationalities homelands and acted as some people did in our country, we would have to suffer the consequences! Why can`t that happen here?
It`s because ::::::::: Sorry,,,,,,,,,,,,, Ranting now but i feel so strongly about all the **** thats happening to our once great land. WTF is going on??????????
GGGrrrrrrrr Bring back Hanging and Capital Punishment.

Going to just go and sit in the dark now like most of the Cabinet, Government and lots of the Population. Sorry All..........
Just a True, Patriotic Englishman letting off some steam about how he feels let down by the people who run the country!.
