Who should light the Olympic Flame?
This has been a minor question for a while now. Beckham as ruled himself out saying an Olympian should do so, very commendably self-aware there as I would agree he would not have been the ideal choice.
So who do you think should light the flame?
My own view is that considering 7/7 happened one day after we won the Olympics there would be some nice symbolism if a representative from the survivors lit it in honor of those who died. I think that has a nice subtext to it.

Keith from The Prodigy
To be honest I think having a 7/7 survivor would send out an awful message. I get the sentiment but I don't think the Olympics should have any connections to terrorism even if it is a 'risen from the flames' sort of thing.

I do wonder if I have become tunnel visioned with this idea and everybody else can see such an obvious flaw. It is certainly the latter aspect I am focusing on. That a day after winning the Olympics London was hit with a terrorist attack and 7 years on one of the survivors lights the flame. I think the two events are linked in the minds of a lot of Londoners...It's kind of a 'we won't be beaten', 'we can recover' type thing.

I think if we keep referring back to terrorist events with memorials and honors it kind of gives terrorists what they want, which is publicity .Obviously we should not forget those who died or where injured but after 7 yrs i think it's time to move on .I agree with russ ,there should be no link to terrorist events and the Olympics

Re: Who should light the Olympic Flame?
Boris. Purely because there is better than 50% chance of him setting himself or someone else on fire whilst doing it.
Failing that and as a more sensible suggestion it should be one of the gold medalists from the last games.

I like the idea, but I can see how some would disapprove.
