Well, it looks like the terrorists have won
Terrorists don't want to kill you. They want to terrify you.
When this happens you know they've successfully terrorised a whole society.

Re: Well, it looks like the terrorists have won
I think this was more a statement of intent on the part of the police and MI-5. Just showing they're ready to pounce on anyone and anything, ready for the Olympics.

Re: Well, it looks like the terrorists have won
It was a big enough distraction from the real thing, wasn't it.
but with this terrorism thing, there's people still being charged under the terrorism act. but are they the typical terrorist that the government taught us all about some time ago?
we're they the plotting against us. or did they want to harm us the way we think a normal terrorist would.
they don't say.
it's like the recent terrorist arrests. the police said it's not in connection with the olympics.
I don't know whether I should be relieved, or still worried that the police may be expecting something for them to tell us it was not in relation to the olympics.
that's apart from them putting them missile launchers on the roofs. (just incase)

What are you both supposed to be terrified of?

I think this is absolutely hilarious ,sad for the people caught up in it i know but i just can't help laughing at the total over reaction especially from people like this.

Re: Well, it looks like the terrorists have won
I just thought the whole m6 thing was a pathetic overreaction and would have expected our emergency services to be more professional and proportionate.

Because it's a work of art or someone that is regarded by the photographer as worthy of note. Like the Statue of Liberty.

Better to be safe than sorry and after watching the survivors and families of the dead of of 7/7/05 talk about their experiences I have no doubt that the authorities did the right thing.

Pretty standard technique. Keep us all in a state of fear and we'll accept any nonsensical limits on our freedom.

Re: Well, it looks like the terrorists have won
On the surface it may appear to be an over reaction but let's not forget, Britains current threat level is substancial meaning a threat of an attack is a 'strong' possibilty.
With the Olympics just around the corner and the Anniversary of the July 7th London Terror Attack, I do not balme how authorities reacted. This was something out of the ordinary, smoke rising from a bag is not something you see everyday and especially not while travelling on a coach full of people. Not sure I would just sit on a Coach and think, "Oh that looks normal."
We should be praising how we reacted and not make a mockery of what could have been an actual terrorist event with actual loss of life. Reality hit home yet? Hope it wipes some of the smirking, actually no, not smirking, the sneering going on in this thread, off some of your faces.

Re: Well, it looks like the terrorists have won
Mick some of us are very aware of the threat to the UK and this was either an over-reaction or a publicity oppurtunity and had that been a real terrorist with any sort of real weapon that level of response would have at best got us a bus load of dead people and at worst the release of a bio\chemical agent. You don't go all in on a suspect you truly believe to have any sort of weapon or agent which is why i think this was done more for the image of it then anything else and far from making me feel safe this incident is causing me to worry about those at the top and how they plan things.
