Well. it's a bit like saying we're going to tax air. without thinking of the effects and everything involved with it.

if they just stopped and thought before they said they're going to tax air. then there would be no reason for anyone to accuse them of being too tough. and there would be no reason for them to have to back down and admit, yeh, it was a crazy idea. sorry.

and yes I do like to eat all my cakes

Re: Government does U-turn over 'Cornish pasty tax'

To be honest it's not a bit like saying "we're going to tax air...."

There are clearly practical reasons why the original idea was unworkable so they've modified the policy. It seeems eminently sensible to me that, having listened to the various arguments raised, HMG has acted to resolve the problem. Of course it'd have been better to have done so before making the budget announcement but in the grand scheme of things it was hardly a major blow to the government's credibility.

You clearly like having and eating your political pasties but just for a change maybe you could concede that HMG has listened and that's a good thing. I mean you've given them plenty of stick for not listening, being uncaring, aloof, etc., etc. haven't you...

Yes. unworkable. because they never thought about it properly from the start.
a bit like saying they're going to tax air. and then having to think how they're going to work it after they've introduced it.

Hmmm pies....

They've listened to how ridiculous it is.
what people will realise out of this is how they'll come up with even more stupid ideas of how to raise a bit of money.

so I'd say we're still on course to beat that U-turn record.
