Most agricultural production on the planet is very dependant upon abundant and cheap energy, mostly from oil. Without fertilisers and mechanical tillage/harvesting the amount of food produced will fall dramatically, mass starvation is inevitable with the strong nations taking the dwindling resources for themselves.
