London mayor steps in to stop buses carrying Christian group's ads that claim therapy can stop people being gay
|
Is this a block on this groups free speech rights or the prevention of homophobia?

The advert was due to say: "Not gay! Post-gay, ex-gay and proud. Get over it!"

Homophobic opinions shouldn't be allowed.
Or should we have bus adverts saying Muslims are responsible for 911?

Only those comments were not homophobic. Had they been so then prosecutions would have followed.

How would you describe them, if not homophobic?
You can't be prosecuted for being homophobic btw. You can be prosecuted for discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation.

Re: Anti-gay adverts pulled from bus campaign by Boris Johnson
I'd have probably banned the adverts, what's the point of upsetting people for no good cause imo and the only people that would take any sort of notice would be the youngsters already struggling to come to terms with their sexuallity. That said I'd have probably not allowed the adverts they were in response to either from Stonewall Some people are gay, get over it how about you (Stonewall) get over yourselves for a start.

I'm not sure how I'd describe them but they're not homophobic. People are far too quick to play the "ooooh, gayist" card these days especially when it comes to anything connected to religion.
I don't see anything in that 'advert' which suggests homosexuality can be 'cured'. It could just as easily refer to someone straight who 'experimented' during their teens or puberty.
Oh and before presumptions start flying about, I don't think the adverts were a good idea. I just object to the notion that you can only have an opinion as long as it doesn't "offend" someone.

I don't get it. what does it mean?
I'd say it was like "oh shut up about you being gay, and wanting to tell the whole world about it will you!"
but there's no "I am gay" in the statement.
