Whitehall shared resource schemes cost £500m more, and departments denied access
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-17276978
So shared resources scheme has gone over budget by 500m has had disasters such denied access not fit for the purpose it intended.
How I am not suprised this blair legacy is one heap of mess.
the following is absolute bonkers hope this did not effect problems in emergency situations worst cause loss of life.
Quote:
|
The report found that the Maritime and Coastguard Agency was blocked from joining the Department for Transport scheme because it did not have security clearance for Whitehall IT systems.
|
At least one department hit budget targets but 2 have not even kept track so it could be worse or slightly better.
What a fiasco this become

Alan, once again a reality check - most of this was under the previous administration, as it started in 2004.

In 2004, Tony Blair's Labour government promised to set up cost-saving centres to save £159m by sharing "back-office" functions such as information technology, personnel and procurement between departments.
The NAO said the initial start-up costs had been put at £900m but, by 2011, had increased to £1.4bn.

Labour probably also consider the project to be a failure. They thought it would cost even more and yield less savings.

The government says it saved £3.75bn in 10 months by cutting jobs and projects, and spending less.
Cabinet Office Minister Francis Maude described the savings, confirmed by an independent audit, as "staggering"..

Borrowing more when there is a downturn is the way it's meant to be. You still have to fund things like the NHS, even when income from taxes etc goes down. Borrowing more when the economy is meant to be in a good state, is not the way it's meant to be. You are meant to be able to start paying off the debt when times are good, not adding to it.

Because no one forecast the Eurozone crisis, but don't, once again, let facts get in the way of diatribe and polemic, eh?

Although to be fair we equally cant deny labour could not forseen the indonesia tunnami or the bank crisis either. So not all the debt down to mis-management. Some it was but not convinced all was labour but actually some down to previous government quango job creation. Although labour did not need to carry the mantle further create even more mess.
I think those administrations Major, blair, brown screwed us up extremely badly. We was already in not good position from thatcher privatisation screwup, forgotten generation big unemployment, destroying our manufacturing. Although all governments have had to deal with the computer boom losing jobs and mechinism they failed to change the country to cope.
Dont think one single regime at fault but combination many years of policies not good for britain and what was good for party as vote catching trash policies. I blame at least 33 years and selfish politics is still happening under cameron. Half the policies nothing to do with UK recovery/debt management but to force people in a hole. All we doing making one heap mess into one heap of bigger mess.
Although I correctly blamed blair administration for this policy it had makings to be good idea but badly rotten implemented.
if the system in place and been properly setup I would imagine the blame is trying to do it on the cheap using it companies who undercut others but not capable doing the job. Now would assume those tenders was under brown administration.

Re: Whitehall shared resource schemes cost £500m more, and departments denied access
There have been several reports in the past from the National Audit Office saying that. 9 or 10 figure amounts had been wasted or not well spent. by the Labour Government. This instance is far from being an isolated case.
