Liverpool legend Tommy Smith is selling off his medal collection to provide for his family. The auction will feature 75 items, including Smith's 1977 European Cup winners' medal, 1965 FA Cup winners' medal and match-worn shirt, and St Etienne striker Dominique Rochteau's shirt from the Reds' historic meeting with the French giants in 1977.

Don't you think it's a great shame when someone has to do this sort of thing ?

Not really. it doesn't really say whether he's desperate for the money, or he just thinks the money is more use.

"I'm not skint, I don't have to do this, but I'm getting old and the money is of more use to me now than the medals.
"I hadn't seen them for about two years as they were in the bank and I just thought, what the hell are they doing there?
"They are worth an awful lot of money but no one is benefiting from them all just sitting there; it's not helping me and it's not helping my family.

Seems to be a choice he has made not needed to do so not sure what the issue is with this.

I think its sad the true football greats missed out on the cash cow. 99% of profesionals in prem aint fit to tie there shoe laces yet sadly got more money for being not that good.
