Well there is one hope there and that is there is no hope of them giving it back to us.

Time we stopped giving away our money to anyone, we have plenty of need for it in this country.

India’s Finance Minister has said that his country “does not require” British aid, describing it as “peanuts”.

Might be peanuts to you pal, but that kind of money is what us British are making cuts and suffering for. you ungrateful twonk.

I dare say millions of poverty stricken Indians may disagree with him because, whilst some in India are doing very well indeed, many are not.

Re: India tells Britain: We don't want your aid
As always the devil is in the detail:
Quote:
Economic motive as a condition for aid
Economic objectives have overshadowed foreign aid assistance since the 1970s. Anup Asha in her article,Aid for Development Assistance, noted that donor countries condition their recipients to only purchase their products or hire their expertise to qualify for aid. She further argues that while the European Union and the US strongly advocate for trade liberalization when awarding development aid assistance to developing countries, they heavily subsidizes their agricultural sectors by about $ 35-40 billion and $190 per year respectively. As a result of these disguised policies it was discovered that developing countries in 2002 alone made a transfer of about $200 billion to donor countries.
...
|
From Wikipedia.
The British government wants India to keep taking the aid, because they expect something in return.

If they can afford to spend $50+ billion on arms over the next 5 years, I agree...

India is looking to spend more than $50bn over the next five years to modernise its armed forces, including a $10bn deal to buy 126 new fighter jets.

Re: India tells Britain: We don't want your aid
Fair enough then no more pennies for you but i am sure we will find another country to send whatever we might save on india after all international development is an ongoing thing so won't make a jot of difference to anything in this country. Makes me wonder how many other countries that get some of our momey feel about it and do they really want it to me that would be a priority thing for the government to find out.
