Obviously going too fast at the junction.
Regaining the cost of incidents like these from the driver/company might allow the rise in speeding fines to be dropped...

Re: Lorry driver should have the book thrown at him
there's nothing in that quote you have, erm, quoted, to say he was obviously going to fast... why the haste in throwing the book? do you have a link to the full story?
EDIT
found it... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...ester-16812563
still nothing to say he was speeding. what gives? an opinion is not fact. a fact proves a fact and there is nothing here that proves that.

So why would a lorry have overturned of its own volition?
Link added.

could have been ice on the road ,could have been a motorist cutting him up ,could have been any number of things including speeding or falling asleep .It's a bit early to be throwing blame around

Yes, all lorry drivers drive like angels.
If you drive on Motorways regularly, as I have over the last couple of years, you see them driving nose to tail with less than a metre between a cab & the trailer in front of it...

Driver may have fallen asleep, blow out, cut up, ice, gust of wind. Just because a lorry crashed does not automatically mean it was speeding. It may have been, but there is nothing in this report to say that it was.

By the same logic, not all lorry drivers drive dangerously. That's a very unfair assumption to make. Again, opinion is not fact.

I believe they think slipstreaming saves fuel.

Vast amount of time driving then Cobby A couple of years is small change compared to some. I have been motorway driving for around 25 years & have done 100's of thousands of miles in my time & to be brutally honest I have seen many, many more idiots behind the wheels of cars than I have seen idiot lorry drivers, in fact I can only recall one knob lorry driver & he was in a French regged lorry. (although I dont doubt there is the odd bad lorry driver but not all as you seem to imply)
Most if not all lorry drivers fully understand that what they are driving and the danger/injury it can cause.
You may perceive it to be about a meter but have you actually measured it? Generally it would be about 10ft or more, although some do drive closer.

Its a fact, slipstreaming (drafting) can save about 11% in fuel if you are at about 30m from the lorry in front or around 39% if your a few meters behind. Google would be your friend if you let it.

I often find that when this happens the lorry behind is trying to build up speed to overtake, and the usually pull out just as you try to overtake.
It's the cars that drive this close to each other that are more of a worry to me.

Re: Lorry driver should have the book thrown at him
I drove heavy goods for over 27 years and only had one tyre blowout in all that time, not a pleasant experience.
The worst set of drivers on the motorways today are those idiot motorists who think the should not go on the inside lane and plod along in the middle lane at 60mph, then there are those that stay in the outside lane.
Another set are the small van drivers who move in and out of the lanes like nobody's business.
Just ask yourself, who has the most accidents on a motorway.
