"Ice or high winds is not an excuse... you drive to the conditions not blame them afterwards... I agree with the OP he was probably going too fast.."

PS... that comment wasn't from me but from the person sat next to me with a HGV C+E licence

I drove a delivery vehicle for a while and you have to be aware of the conditions especially if driving a vehicle with something like animal feed because if to fast it could shift possibly causing the centre of gravity to change and over you would go, driver error of the worst kind.

So ice and wind dismissed, we are left with possibilities of falling asleep, being cut up, evasive action (eg, another vehicle, animal darting into the road, et cetera), plus more. I'm not saying it wasn't excessive speed that caused this accident, but at the same time, I don't agree that it was "obviously" speeding. Sometimes things are not as clear cut as ones own opinion. 'Probably' is not 'obviously'. and for the record, I actually agree it was 'probably' speed that caused this, though it is not necessarily 'obviously' the cause.

I think we need to know more about the circumstances before judgement can be made. It's far to easy to say speed was the cause and if followed to the logical conclusion we'll all have men walking ahead of us waving red flags.

Mind you this one looks very fishy.
