speeding fines set to increase to £100
Quote:
Motorists face a huge hike in speeding fines to as much as £100 to help fill a funding gap for victims of crime, Kenneth Clarke has disclosed. The fines for motorists come as part of a huge expansion in the Victims Surcharge scheme, which currently levies just £15 on top of fines issued by courts.
The Justice Secretary now wants the scheme extending to all criminals, including those jailed for the most serious offences such as murder and rape.

whilst i don't have a problem with extending the victims surcharge scheme i think it's a bit much raising the speeding speeds which are victim less and it does amount to a extra tax on motorists. In my opinion the punishments for speeding are getting a bit disproportionate to the crime

Do we still get a discount if we pay it early?
call me silly, but I love bargains.

Motorists = the (any) government's cash cow.
Has speeding suddenly become more deadly? Has the number of people speeding risen sharply? No and no. So why raise fines if it isn't to squeeze more money out of our pockets? Ah yes I forgot. "We're all in this together".
Unless you're a banker or politician.

Re: speeding fines set to increase to £100
I noticed on the programme the other week about shoplifters that committing theft will incurr a much lower penalty than a minor speeding transgression now.
That's disproportionate and unfair.

As a general rule shoplifters don't kill people. People driving dangerously do.
Fines are supposed to deter people. So if you don't like the fine, then don't speed.

Re: speeding fines set to increase to £100
I think it should be doubled...I don't drive any more..and rarely ever drove over speed limit..and when i did..i paid the fine.
Choice is there...don't want to pay the fine, don't do the crime

Well the Government needs to raise the money from somewhere for our next war alongside the USA.
Motorists are an easy target. If its your first offence they might send you on a course which will mean you don't get the points but is £90.00 instead of £63.00. After that its a straight £63.00 or was should i say. Does this mean the course for first offenders is to raise to well over £100.00
My advice would be get yourself a tomtom or road angel with speed camera updates and avoid that speeding tax, Info HERE

These are fixed penalties - not fines.
A fixed penalty is imposed for a minor transrgression which could be just a couple of miles over the limit.
A fine which would be imposed for a higher excess.
Stealing ruins peoples' livelihoods.
Please don't think that I condone speeding, but the penalties have to be proportionate.

I think you’re just as likely to kill ‘a family of four’ at 70 as you are at 80!
We should be more concerned with drink drivers maybe increase there fines!
