There is nothing in the bible to back any of those assertions up. Regardless of anyone's religious or atheist backgrounds, prejudice against same-sex marriage will always be in the minds of some.

But most clearly agree with it, which is a good thing!
What thread has been merged?

Re: [MERGED] Poll: Same Sex civil marriages, yes or no.
I understand where the religious community are coming from and also the gay community, gays are staying and civil marriage will happen just the same as the religious community will stay, there must be a way for these two groups to get a long. Im not sure if it is about getting along but something else.
If thats off topic sorry.

It makes me wonder thats all Lyn Featherstone was on the Radio last week saying if the government legislated for Gay Marriage the church would not be forced to coduct them, but if the legislation is bought in it will be illegal for chruches to refuse under this European ruling,so effectively Lyn Featherstones promise is worthless.
I wonder if the government will get cold feet.

Why would it be illegal for churches to refuse to wed gay couples under this ruling if the ruling says it's not a human right? confused:

Because if you read the links i provided to the newspaper articles the judges have ruled that although Gay Marriage is not a human right if any government does leglislate for it it will be illegal for the church to refuse to marry a Gay couple under equality rules,ie there would be no opt out for churches as Lyn Featherstone has claimed.

Re: [MERGED] Poll: Same Sex civil marriages, yes or no.
If a civil marriage and a religious marriage was the same then yes it would be illegal... but a church marriage is sufficiently different as to provide the opt-out clause.
The ruling will specifically allow civil marriages which in the legal context is only the very last part of a religious marriage (e.g..signing of the register)

I smell a lot of lawyers fees coming up on this one.
Although the points you make could well be right, somebody would want to test the theoery certainly if churches or religeous premises are marrying opposite sex couples i can see it being claimed that not offering that service to same sex couples could be deemed to be unequal.
Therfore illegal.
Judges also said that if same-sex unions became lawful, any church that refuses to marry gay couples could be charged with discrimination.
