You can say that again as there is one firm down here and 75% of their drivers must be migrants.

My viewpoint (as I've said in other migrant threads) was restrict them from any benefits/NHS until they have worked here fulltime for at least 5 years, in the mean time let them get medical/work insurance.
Quite happy to accept migrants into this country as long as they are a help to the country.

It also says in the article that half of the 371,000 migrants claiming benefits have become British Citizens since arriving, meaning they must have been here at least 5 years. How many of those years they worked is a different matter.

Don't us British nationals have the same rights re claiming working benefits in all EU countries as well ?

Even if we do. we're not all moving there from a country where we had none, and all the other benefits that come with it, with no money knowing that we'll get some when we get there. are we?

Same here, but probably around 94% I'd say.

The reason i ask is ,that being the case do all EU countries have the same working benefits as us or is there a big difference in the type of benefits and the amount of benefits are paid to workers that qualify in other EU countries compared to us .For example do other EU countries have housing benefit for low paid workers ?

Re: Benefits being claimed by more than 370,000 migrants
What is needed is to ensure that those that need support get it and get it appropriately and that would include refugees (as opposed to migrants). Maybe that benefit should be housing/food vouchers but I think that was declared illegal or at least demeaning.
Those who won't work should get nothing as opposed to those who can't work and the latter should be assisted in doing something whether it's paid or not to contribute to society/community that is supporting them.

I expect you're including the British that are already claiming dole/benefits?
By not giving them anything would mean violence/thieving/mugging/drugs/alcohol/and all the rest massively increasing and becoming a normal part of our daily life that in some respects were our own doing.

I worked in Greece for 6 years during the summer and was looking to move there so had quite a good look into how the benefits/tax system worked. I HAD to pay into the tax system for at least 12 months and would then be entitled to around 300 euros (at the time) per month. I was also required to go to the police station where they would take my fingerprints and then go to the hospital for a full medical (blood tests the lot). All this HAD to be done before i would receive anything.
This money would have to be to pay my accomodations etc as there was no such thing as housing benefit etc. Last year there was 2007 so this may have changed.
