Clothing retailer Peacocks enters administration

Clothing retailer Peacocks has gone into administration, it has been confirmed.
Staff at the company's Cardiff HQ were told of the move by chief executive Richard Kirk on Wednesday afternoon.
The firm, which has tried unsuccessfully to restructure its £240m debts, employs more than 400 in Cardiff and over 9,000 others across the UK.

Shame. It's been a good place to buy clothing at a reasonable price and a rotten time to lose a job.

Re: Clothing retailer Peacocks enters administration
Yes it is a real shame and one wonders who will be left on the high street in a couple of years time as there are rumours of many other companies verging close to administration.

Last couple of pairs of jeans came from there. Difficult to find jeans that i like the fit of. Size 12, low rise, skinny.
Pity if we lose this retailer, still Next seem to survive.

Re: Clothing retailer Peacocks enters administration
Administrators think it will be sold as a going concern - it's profitable, just can't pay back the debts accumulated due to the MBO in around 2006.

I always meant to get a picture of the "arch" in the Next in Penzance. Looked just like the Holodeck. All an illusion.

Re: Clothing retailer Peacocks enters administration
We stopped even looking in their stores after they went up-market and upped the prices at the same time.

Maybe once upon a time, but the last couple of years they've been charging premium prices for cheap tat every time we've popped in for a look.

Re: Clothing retailer Peacocks enters administration
Let's hope there's something left to sell after the administrators have been and gone.
Quote:
In a damming report published yesterday, the OFT called for a radical overhaul of regulatory regime in the industry (insolvency profession).....
..... The report also revealed that UK administrators earned £1bn in fees from every £5bn of assets realised.
