Judging by the shopping centre I've just been to could be anyone of a number, the place was full of people but no one actually seemed to be going in any shops, I think H Samual looked particulaly bad, loads of staff and not a single customer either time I passed.

The new shopping centres here are like that, people just go in to get out of the cold and wet.

Re: Clothing retailer Peacocks enters administration
More and more people are shopping over the internet from the comfort of their homes, that alone is having a negative impact on the high street and the malls.
Last Christmas we did about 75% of our shopping online.

Noticed it in the sales this month: Lots of people looking, very few buying.

Re: Clothing retailer Peacocks enters administration
I totally blame this coalition government for the way these companies are going to the wall.
Customers just do not have the funds anymore to go and buy stuff, they have to count there pennies. It is not just the main company fails, its the suppliers also suffers.
My wife went to a shop in Hounslow to buy some clothes, and the shop was nearly empty of stock, as there main supplier had gone bust.
This coalition government must pull there finger out of there back side and realise what they are doing to this country, otherwise in the next 12 months there won't be any retail stores about.
Its is no good saying that they are doing all they can to help the unemployed =- since they have been in power it has gone up.

Re: Clothing retailer Peacocks enters administration
As usual, Arthur doesn't let facts get in the way of the guff he issues. IIRC, Peacocks' problems have far more to do with the massive debt they're struggling to repay (dating from well before this govt. existed) than current trading conditions. Does that sound familiar to our deluded New Labour fanboys?

Collapsed fashion chain Peacocks has been sold to Edinburgh Woollen Mill in an emergency rescue deal that has saved two-thirds of its stores but will still result in more than 3,000 job losses.
Peacocks's administrators KPMG said the privately owned Scottish group had acquired 388 of its 612 stores, which would safeguard around 6,000 jobs. The Dumfriesshire-based company, which also bought fashion brand Jane Norman out of administration, is also taking on Peacocks's head office and logistics operations in Wales. The 224 stores that are not part of the deal will close down immediately.

Well at least they have been able to preserve two thirds of the business and some of the jobs as well and that can't be bad news in this day and age.

I guess yes and no!
If it were true Virgin Media would not exist as it would have closed 10 years ago when ntl went into Chapter 11.

KPMG's Chris Laverty said the deal ensured the "continued trading of a well known name on the high street. While it is unfortunate that redundancies have been necessary, we are pleased that we have been able to preserve the majority of the business and jobs."
